Welcome to the Building Better Futures for Health Challenge 2025
Since 2016, IDE Group has successfully hosted and supported the annual Building Better Futures for Health Challenge. The BBFH Challenge invites entrepreneurs, researchers and industry professionals worldwide to apply to bring Medtech ideas to life and kick-start the journey to commercialisation.
The BBFH Challenge is about working together to find, create, evaluate and invest in the best medical technology innovations — about collaboration and making a difference through meaningful innovation.
We thank all Finalists, Semi-Finalists, applicants and guests for making this year’s Challenge a special event and wish all four Finalists the best of luck!

Kinexcs
Presented by Abhishek Agrawal
KIMIA Recover is a digital recovery management system specifically designed to support patients recovering after total knee replacement (TKR) surgery. It combines a wearable device, a patient mobile app, and a clinician dashboard to enable continuous monitoring and personalized recovery support — all from home. The wearable tracks key recovery metrics such as knee range of motion, step count, and daily activity patterns. The mobile app guides patients through gamified exercises, offers real-time feedback, and encourages progress through milestone tracking. Patients can also capture wound images and submit responses to structured questionnaires, enabling early detection of potential complications
Meablex
Presented by Alireza Mohammadi
We are developing a next-generation prosthetic technology: a sensorised, quick-fit prosthetic socket integrated with our novel AI-powered MyoLog sensing system. Traditional prosthetic control relies on electromyography (EMG), which is prone to noise, poor electrode placement, perspiration, and muscle fatigue. These limitations lead to high rejection rates, particularly among children. Moreover, conventional sockets must be custom-made and frequently replaced as the user grows, adding financial and accessibility burdens.

Mamatech
Presented by Emily Porter
Founded in 2025 by two women’s health physiotherapists, MamaTech Pty Ltd is an early-stage Western Australian med-tech startup developing Mamawand, the world’s first personal handheld, consumer-grade therapeutic ultrasound (TUS) device for breastfeeding women, designed to treat inflammatory conditions of the lactating breast (ICLB) such as mastitis, blocked ducts, and engorgement.
OptoSleep
Presented by Lynne Bilston
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a common respiratory/sleep disorder, affecting up to a billion people worldwide. We aim to develop two key technologies for OptoSleep, a novel therapy for people with OSA, which uses a smart oral appliance to deliver light stimulation to the throat muscles to make them contract and keep the airway open during sleep. First, we will develop an algorithm to automate the design of patient-specific oral appliances, which will then be 3D printed. Then we will refine the device’s sensor analysis and stimulation algorithms and implement efficacy monitoring using machine learning, implement the algorithm in device hardware and validate performance.

Pulsatile Innovations
Presented by Elleesha King
Our flagship product is a single use sensing device- Pulse Tile that is designed to be applied to the neck of a person in suspected cardiac arrest to informs the rescuer if the person is in cardiac arrest and requires life saving intervention.

Rapid Dose
Presented by Adrian Ng
RapiDose is a simple, single-use dosing system that lets clinicians prepare exact, weight-based IV/IM drug doses for children within seconds during high-stress emergencies (cardiac arrest, status epilepticus, anaphylaxis, major trauma). RapiDose prevents deadly dosing mistakes, speeds time-critical drug delivery, and makes rare paediatric emergencies safer anywhere.
Romi
Presented by Hope Hsiao
Romi is an affordable, education-based method that enables young women to track their cycles using basal body temperature (BBT). At its core is a coin-sized BBT sensor that adheres to a smartphone case. Each morning, the user receives a reminder from our app, places their wrist on the sensor, and the temperature is automatically recorded via Bluetooth. The app then translates that data into clear cycle insights and actionable guidance—covering ovulation detection, nutrition, energy, exercise, and focus—helping women live more in sync with their bodies.
