Commercial Director | Scaling Growth & Leading Cross-Functional Teams

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Commercial Business Unit Director to lead and grow a Commercialisation Business Unit. A degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Science, or a related discipline is a must!

This is a senior role with real scope. You’ll help shape where the Business Unit goes, how it grows, and how we deliver meaningful value to our clients. A key part of the role is turning ideas into outcomes while guiding innovative concepts through uncertainty and into commercially successful realities. To do this well, the successful candidate will be a commercialisation and technical thought leader both internally and externally.

You’ll spend time with clients, partners, and the team, building relationships, bringing in new opportunities, and navigating complex product development and commercialisation projects. If you enjoy building teams, business and ideas and you’re comfortable without an entrepreneurial mindset, this role will suit you well.

What You’ll Do

• Define the strategy and future direction of the Commercialisation Business Unit
• Drive sustainable growth and strong commercial performance while leading and supporting the team
• Ensure we deliver genuine value and care for clients not just outputs, but real outcomes
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders
• Help bring in new opportunities and grow existing ones
• Represent IDE externally in a way that is natural, credible, and authentic
• Have meaningful conversations, build trust, and connect ideas to opportunity
• Keep improving how we work
• Continuously improve delivery, quality, and effectiveness

What You Bring

• A degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Science, or a related discipline
• Worked in medical product development
• Around 8+ years’ experience in project‑based roles across design, product development, production, supply, and/or and/or NPI (medtech specific experience is highly valued)
• System level understanding of medical device development and quality systems (such as ISO 13485)
• Experience leading teams and being accountable for commercial and delivery outcomes
• Experience leading commercial relationships
• Overall understanding of the medtech industry and is a subject matter expert in at least one aspect of the industry
• Experience working in regulated or safety‑critical environments
• Familiar with approaches such as Design Thinking, Agile, Lean, or similar
• Comfortable making decisions without having all the answers upfront
• You enjoy talking with people and building relationships
• You’re naturally curious and look for opportunity
• You care about doing work that has a real meaningful impact
