Testimonials
Working in a team that gives you technical tasks to do is one thing. But working in a team that actively helps you “Think Like an Engineer” is another level altogether.
I can confidently say that IDE’s internship stands out for its commitment to mentorship, meaningful work, and a culture that encourages both personal and professional growth. The opportunity to work alongside experts who are driving positive change in the MedTech industry was truly invaluable. My colleagues have encouraged me to tackle challenges with a systematic approach and principled decision-making. Their example also pushed me to strive for excellence in my work and approach every task with a sense of purpose.
During the internship, I found myself often coming back to the motto, “many ways to skin a cat”, as I was given a lot of creative freedom to choose how to solve complex problems related to WPF app development. The encouragement from my colleagues to ask questions and be proactive was something that really helped me learn and develop.
Unlike some intern programs that can leave you feeling disconnected, at IDE, I felt deeply integrated into the project team. The learning curve was certainly steep! But the friendly atmosphere ensured that I always had support when needed.
I wholeheartedly recommend IDE’s internship program to any student looking to gain hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary environment. It’s a place where you can collaborate on fascinating (and, in truth, uber-cool) projects and be constantly inspired by the people around you.
My internship with IDE Group was an incredibly valuable and rewarding experience. As a biomedical engineering and computer science student, IDE Group provided the perfect environment to learn and apply newfound skills in medical device development. The variety of MedTech projects was enticing, and I feel very fortunate to have been exposed to so many interesting and emerging technologies.
What I value most about my internship was the people at IDE Group. I felt very supported by the entire team in my professional development, and the mentorship from senior product developers helped me to upskill in various mechanical engineering and industrial design techniques. I was able to make meaningful contributions to projects by conducting testing, creating CAD files, prototyping and preparing engineering documentation.
Beyond the technical skills, I also gained a deeper understanding of the medical device industry, especially the regulatory requirements. The experience not only solidified my passion for biomedical engineering but also provided me with a clear direction for my future career. I am so grateful to IDE Group for this opportunity and highly recommend it to anyone seeking hands-on experience in the medical device industry.
Interning at IDE Group was an experience that exceeded all my expectations. What stood out to me the most was the seamless integration of practical skills with theoretical knowledge. From day one, I found myself deeply involved in the R&D process, contributing ideas and seeing them come to life. The support from the team was exceptional. I never expected to feel so involved, but the encouragement to share ideas and the capacity to run with them made me feel truly valued.
Comparing my experience to other internships, IDE Group stood out for its dynamic environment and steep learning curve. I was exposed to a variety of projects and environments, constantly challenging myself in new ways. Throughout my internship, I learned invaluable lessons. Attention to detail, troubleshooting, time management, and above all, effective communication were key takeaways.
My favourite moment? Undoubtedly, it was running tests, gathering and then analysing data to determine causes of fluid loss in a mechanical system. Witnessing the speed of idea genesis and seeing the direct impact of my work on design changes was incredibly fulfilling.
As a mechanical and biomedical engineering student, my internship with IDE uniquely allowed me to merge my two fields of study by giving me invaluable insight into product development in the context of medical problems. I contributed to projects by carrying out testing protocols and completing small assemblies. I even got a taste of quality assurance, leaving me with a multi-faceted, well-rounded experience.
Aside from the technical benefits of this internship, the team at IDE was also incredibly supportive and provided a wealth of knowledge and experience that I could regularly draw upon. Overall, this internship has greatly complemented my studies, and I’m grateful to everyone who I worked alongside. I’d highly recommend this to any student looking to gain hands-on experience and a realistic view of what a career in this field might look like!
When I first accepted the offer for a full-time summer internship at IDE Group, I was eager to start my journey and make the most of this opportunity. However, I was quickly surprised to learn that my first project was a software project building a web application, which was not my indicated area of interest. Despite this, I pushed past my initial reservations and strived to deliver my best.
As I progressed through the internship, I enjoyed the challenges that came my way and found satisfaction in tackling problems every day. I was eventually given the opportunity to work on a firmware project developing a breath detection subsystem for a wearable ventilator. I embraced the challenge and stepped out of my comfort zone, seeking help from colleagues and upskilling myself. With time, I succeeded in developing the subsystem and building the web apps, both uniquely challenging and fulfilling experiences in their own right.
I am grateful to IDE Group for this unforgettable experience and their focus on mentorship and support for the interns. This internship not only helped me develop technical skills but also taught me to be comfortable with change and have confidence in my abilities. I am eager to continue my association with the company as a part-time employee.
As a student studying biomedical engineering as well as project management, I was able to learn about the overarching connection between technical engineering skills and project management, which further contributes to the overall success of projects and the development of medical devices.
During the internship program at IDE, I had the opportunity to acquire industry knowledge while contributing to projects benefiting people’s quality of life. By being involved in product development, I was able to earn skills from research conducting, product designing, and prototype assembly and testing. In addition, this internship has changed my perspective on medical device product development, as I’ve witnessed how quality processes are adopted in the industry, by following a system to ensure the inevitable risks and issues are mitigated. Furthermore, the program has expanded my knowledge in project management, as I have observed the interconnectedness between tasks to achieve project goals and success while challenging me to utilise my critical thinking skills.
I highly recommend the internship program here at IDE as it is a great way to gain industry experience while working on projects with others. I am grateful for the experience and knowledge I have obtained through the program, and I appreciate IDE’s exceptional company culture, where everyone is willing to help each other succeed.
As a graduating Industrial Design student, I wanted to fulfil my life goal to help as many people as possible. The internship gave me insight into how that would be possible within the MedTech space and opened my eyes to all the considerations needed to design and manufacture medical products.
Throughout my internship and being mentored to look further into the future of my career, I gained more clarity on where I wanted to head.
I thank them for the opportunity to get to know some amazing people and would highly recommend applying for the internship at IDE. Even moving past this internship, I can say I definitely made some friends because the culture is so supportive of your respective journey.
For those considering whether or not to try, applying will always be worth the shot.
As a science student, I’ve come to notice that there is a large gap between research and industry. Wanting to learn more about how scientific research could be applied directly to industrial applications, I applied for an internship with IDE Group. This was such an extremely eye-opening opportunity and really allowed me to work towards bridging that gap and bringing forth the translational potential of scientific research.
The program at IDE is so much more than just an internship. During my time as an intern, I worked together with a dedicated mentoring group and my own assigned mentor to develop and reach my personal and professional goals. In my role of Product Development Support, I was involved in market research and engagement with key stakeholders in the industry to understand the market needs and value proposition of the technology being developed at IDE. I was given a unique insight into the product development aspect of MedTech with my experience being tailored to specifically suit my studies and to be relevant to my career path.
IDE’s commitment to building better futures for health is evident not only in the integrity of their work but also in the values of their team and positive workplace culture. I can’t thank IDE enough for this opportunity, and would absolutely recommend their internship program to any student looking to gain real industry experience.
Before the internship, I had attended Building Better Futures for Health and got to see first-hand the amount of knowledge and support provided by IDE to fledgling start-ups who wanted to improve the future of health in their way, which really resonated with me.
After graduating from university, one of my goals was to get my foot into the medical device industry, which I found in the form of the IDE Internship Program. I was involved in product development and learnt first-hand about the pathway an idea follows to becoming a medical device. However, I wouldn’t have enjoyed my internship nearly as much without the support of my mentors, my manager, and the wonderful co-workers I am fortunate to continue working with at IDE.
