IDE Group congratulates Nuroflux, EzyAid, Spira Health and all other participants of the Building Better Futures for Health (BBFH) Challenge 2021.

IDE is happy to congratulate this year’s winner of BBFH, as chosen by our esteemed panel of judges, Nuroflux! Nuroflux has developed a wearable device for real-time monitoring patients with acute ischaemic stroke. It utilises a proprietary multi-modal system to provide continuous monitoring of blood flow and electrical activity in the brain, which allows rapid detection and treatment of complications to improve outcomes and reduce the need for repeat CT scans to lower the radiation risk and reduce financial costs. As the major prize winner, Nuroflux has won $25,000 worth of IDE commercialisation services.

IDE can also announce this year’s winner of the Staff’s Choice Award, EzyAid! EzyAid is a new method for fixing feeding tubes. They particularly invented this method to be applied in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) when the founders, Jessica Hay Adam Geosits, saw the need to replace the current labour intensive, uncomfortable and stressful method for their son Matthew, who needed to be tube-fed due to a rare condition. As the Staff’s Choice Award winner, EzyAid has won $5,000 worth of IDE commercialisation services.

Furthermore, IDE congratulates Spira Health, the third finalist of this year’s BBFH Challenge. It was a very close race between the three finalists, and although they did not win this year, Spira impressed the judges and the staff with their early-stage obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) treatment solution, Aelous. Aelous is a portable medical device designed to train the throat muscles with evidence-based breathing exercises to reduce airway collapse during sleep and improve sleep apnoea symptoms. We look forward to working with Spira Health to bring their exciting innovation to market.

The BBFH Challenge invites entrepreneurs, researchers and industry professionals worldwide to apply to bring Medtech ideas to life and kick-start the journey to commercialisation. With an annual prize of $30,000 and over $5 Million additional funding raised through working together, the BBFH Challenge is a unique opportunity for Medtech startups.

The final winner, as decided by the BBFH judges, will receive a total of $25,000 worth of IDE services. The “Staff’s Choice Award”, an additional prize of $5,000 in IDE services, is awarded by a vote of IDE’s staff.

Since 2016, IDE Group has successfully hosted and supported the annual Building Better Futures for Health Challenge. IDE is looking forward to the competition in 2022 and offering a new chance to individuals, R&D managers, researchers, universities, startups, and established businesses to apply and pitch their medical technology idea.

George Sidis, Managing Director of IDE Group, expresses his thankfulness “I want to thank every participant, semi-finalist, finalist, judge and everyone else involved for making BBFH such a special event. BBFH is not just about winning the $30,000 prize. Every finalist gets the unique opportunity to obtain advice, mentorship, and financial guidance from IDE and the selected judging panel. We are thankful to all participants for sharing their ideas and building better futures together. It amazes me every year to see these incredible ideas making a difference to people’s health!”
