Every year during the BBFH Challenge, we receive many applications with great ideas and brilliant minds behind them. This year it was stronger than ever, with a record number of applications making the selection process challenging for our judges.

The Challenge is about working together to find, create, evaluate and invest in the best medical technology innovations — about collaboration and making a difference through meaningful innovation.

George Sidis, Managing Director of IDE Group, thanks all applicants for applying and making this year’s BBFH Challenge a special event.

“On behalf of all judges, I’d like to say that we enjoyed reading all the applications and, especially, listening to the excellent pitches during the semi-finals. It was tough for us to pick four finalists out of the nine brilliant semi-finalists this year”, he said.

“I am excited for the final event at the Powerhouse Museum on 21st of September, especially being an in-person event again after so many years and having four exceptionally strong finalists on stage. It will be a fantastic event, and we are all very much looking forward to it”, he added.

IDE Group congratulates the four selected finalists, JD Sanmed, MISTI, STAND, and Ventru, for progressing to the final round of the Building Better Futures for Health (BBFH) Challenge 2022!

  • JD Sanmed is a startup founded by Dr Olaf Rusoke-Dierich, developing the iScope, a digital medical device that enables general practitioners to both examine and perform procedures on patients’ ears, eyes, and skin whilst supporting the recording of digital images and performing billable procedures.
  • MISTI’s nebuliser is a first-in-class, low-cost, validated rapid lung delivery system to deliver life-saving biomolecules that will help respond quickly and productively to both current and emerging infectious respiratory diseases in children.
  • STAND develops simple, affordable, non-invasive, user-friendly diagnostics for preventative screening to active case diagnoses of pathogens inside living beings and around them. The acronym stands for Simple Technology for Affordable Non-invasive Diagnostics.
  • Ventru is an early-stage medical device company developing neurosurgical innovations that improve safety and accessibility, leading to better patient outcomes and lower healthcare costs. Their novel Device for Intraventricular Entry (DIVE) assists surgeons with the safe placement of drains for patients suffering from hydrocephalus.

At the final event, the finalists are running to win up to $30,000 worth of services from IDE Group. For the first time since 2019, the BBFH Challenge will return to an in-person event this year. The event will be at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo on 21st of September, starting at 6pm.

Get your ticket now on Eventbrite. Limited availability. All ticket proceeds will be donated to Sight For All, helping 285 million people worldwide who are vision impaired due to eye disease or lack of glasses. For more info click here.

As decided by the BBFH judges, the final winner will receive a total of $25,000 in IDE services and the opportunity to win an additional $5,000 in services, awarded on the day to the winner of the “People’s Choice Award”.

We wish all four the best of luck in the finals! 🤞
