Sydney, 20th Sept 2019: Fifteen teams of entrepreneurs pitched their MedTech ideas to a room of industry experts in a bid to win a place in the MedTech’s Got Talent ‘Rapid Fire’ round. Design and Entrepreneurship Leader, Ben Cullen, represented IDE Group in this process as a mentor; Judging each 60-second pitch, and afterwards having the opportunity to ask each team questions at a speed-dating session. His aim; find the perfect match of a great team and killer idea that could potentially revolutionise the healthcare industry.

In order to successfully match with the best team, Ben discusses his judging process “It’s about having a match with IDE, I wanted to choose a team that we could really help, both from a technical and business perspective”. IDE chose DiagNose, a diagnostic tool used to identify acute bacterial rhinosinusitis in patients with sinonasal symptoms. This device will result in the reduction of antibiotic prescriptions and the overall economic burden of disease.

Ben and the IDE team will mentor DiagNose over the next couple of months in preparation for the MedTech’s Got Talent National Gala Dinner Finals held in Melbourne in December. Here, the finalists (5 from the Sydney event, 6 from the Melbourne event and 1 form the event in India) will pitch to win one of five $10,000 pre-seed funding prizes to develop their ideas further. In addition to the cash prize, the five winners will commence a six-week intensive incubation style mentoring program with the Actuator. MedTech’s Got Talent has produced and matured many noteworthy ventures, with over 40 still active as part of the program and ten products already fully commercialised and released to market.

IDE would like to thank the MedTech’s Got Talent Team, as well as The Actuator and fellow sponsors for the opportunity to give back to the MedTech community and to work with industry experts and budding entrepreneurs to help build better futures in Australia’s healthcare industry.
